Mooloolaba Yacht Club digs deep for CareFlight
Mooloolaba Yacht Club has given CareFlight on the Sunshine Coast a late Christmas present, donating $2,362 this morning.
The generous donation was raised from boat registrations at the Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade held on December 20, 2014.
RACQ CareFlight Rescue’s North Coast Relationship Manager Angela Miles said CareFlight was the nominated beneficiary, with 100% of the proceeds donated to the Sunshine Coast’s local helicopter.
“We are very grateful for the support,” Ms Miles said.
“The donation will go towards CareFlight’s local service, helping to keep the Sunshine Coast rescue helicopter flying in the community.”
The annual Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade, which is organised by the Mooloolaba Yacht Club, saw 41 boats enter the parade – the most successful year to date.
Ms Miles accepted the $2,362 donation from the Mooloolaba Yacht Club’s Rear Commodore Gary McCarthy at a special presentation at the yacht club this morning.
The Sunshine Coast is the busiest region for RACQ CareFlight Rescue.
More than 491 airlifts were flown by the Sunshine Coast helicopter during the 2013-2014 financial year, showing just how vital the service is to the region.
“One hundred and forty of those rescue missions were to save a local life,” Ms Miles said.
CareFlight relies on the kindness of the community to generate more than a third of its funding.
“We are so grateful to the public and local businesses like the Mooloolaba Yacht Club for supporting our charitable service.
“Whether it be through volunteering your time or raising vital funds, we couldn’t do it without community support,” she said.
