Local helicopter helped by Heritage Bank donation
RACQ CareFlight Rescue is $5,000 closer to its goal of purchasing a winch hoist thanks to the Heritage Bank Nanango Community Funding program.
With more than 150 patients airlifted from the South Burnett in the past year, the funding desperately needed for the region came at the right time.
RACQ CareFlight Fundraising Manager, Angela Miles, says the community of Nanango needs to be thanked for its contribution through the Heritage Bank.
“We are so grateful for this $5,000 donation, as the purchase of a spare winch hoist for our aircraft servicing the South Burnett region is vital,” she said.
“The winch hoist is also transferrable and can be moved between all six of our community helicopters, wherever it’s needed.
“A spare hoist allows our aircraft to stay online for winch-related emergency rescues while the other winch is undergoing maintenance.”
A winch hoist is used in the most serious of emergency helicopter rescues where a person needs to be urgently retrieved from dangerous locations inaccessible by road such as flood waters, dense bushland, rough seas or on the side of a cliff.
“We still need around $130,000 to fund the rest of this winch hoist, so any donations are greatly appreciated,” Angela said.
