Female snorkeler airlifted from Great Barrier Reef
A woman in her 70s has been airlifted by RACQ CareFlight Rescue after swallowing a large amount of water while snorkelling off Heron Island this morning.
The Bundaberg RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked to the island, located north east of Gladstone in the southern Great Barrier Reef, shortly before 10.30am.
Once on scene, the QAS Flight Intensive Care Paramedic on board CareFlight’s helicopter assessed and stabilised the patient.
She was airlifted to Gladstone Hospital in a stable condition.
A family member accompanied her on the flight.
