Three airlifted from trail bike event
The RACQ CareFlight Rescue Toowoomba crew was tasked to Goondiwindi Hospital for an inter-hospital transfer Sunday morning.
On approach to the border town, the rescue crew were diverted to the North Star Trail Ride in Northern NSW, about 40 kilometres from Goondiwindi, where a spectator at the event had suffered a severe cardiac condition.
It was good fortune that CareFlight's Intensive Care Flight Paramedic and Doctor were only minutes from the man's location, as it took all the skills of the medical team to stabilise him.
The patient, aged in his sixties, was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
CareFlight's Gold Coast crew were also tasked to the same event at North Star, where two trail bike riders suffered injuries in separate accidents.
The first patient was a male in his twenties from Goondiwindi who suffered a concussion after coming off his bike.
The second patient was a teenager from Moree in NSW that suffered suspected spinal and pelvic injuries.
Both patients were airlifted to Toowoomba Base Hospital in a stable condition.
