The Voice star Darren Percival helps launch CareFlight Gala Ball
Much loved soul singer and 2012 The Voice runner-up, Darren Percival, delivered a surprise performance at a special event on Thursday September 4 to officially launch RACQ CareFlight Rescue’s highly anticipated Sunshine Coast Gala Ball.
RACQ CareFlight Rescue’s North Coast Relationship Manager Angela Miles said the Gala Ball launch event was an opportunity to update local sponsors and supporters on the progress of CareFlight’s biggest annual fundraiser on the Sunshine Coast.
“The launch was a great way to celebrate the incredible commitment of our wonderful sponsors, while also giving them a taste of the exciting things to expect on the night of the ball,” Ms Miles said.
The highlight of last night’s launch was the sensational performance by local Darren Percival, who surprised guests with soulful renditions of two iconic Broadway musical hits.
“Guests were blown away by Darren’s stellar performance of New York, New York and Broadway,” Ms Miles added.
“Everyone was grinning from ear to ear in anticipation of what’s to come.”
The major raffle prize for this year’s Gala Ball was also announced at the launch.
“Novotel Twin Waters Resort has kindly donated a five-night trip to New York City,” Ms Miles said.
“The incredible prize, which is valued up to $10,000, will include accommodation in Times Square, a travel voucher for flights, sightseeing and tours, as well as tickets to a Broadway show.
“It really is a trip of a lifetime!”
More than 50 guests attended the Broadway-themed launch at CareFlight’s Sunshine Coast hangar, including CareFlight Deputy Chairman Don Moffatt.
Guests enjoyed a selection of delicious nibbles and quality wines provided by Balgownie Estate Wines.
They also heard from guest speaker, Hervey Bay Boat Club’s Chief Executive Officer Ed Gibson, who talked about how vital the CareFlight service is to the local community.
The seventh annual Gala Ball will be held on Friday 31 October at Novotel Twin Waters Resort.
“CareFlight’s Gala Ball is the Sunshine Coast’s premier black tie event – every year just gets bigger and better,” Ms Miles said.
“This year’s ball has a magnificent Broadway theme, treating guests to a night at the theatre.
“It’s a great way for the Sunshine Coast community to celebrate the work of CareFlight and raise vital funds to ensure the community rescue helicopters remain in the air.”
The Sunshine Coast Gala Ball is expecting to attract 550 guests.
Tickets are on sale for $199 per person or for $1,990 for a table of 10.
