Surat ‘goes fishing’ for Jake and raises life saving $14,576 for CareFlight
A local Surat child loved by all and lost to tragedy a year ago has been honoured today with a $14,576 cheque handover to CareFlight.
The large amount of money was raised on behalf of seven year old Jake Broadhead through ‘Jake’s Fishing Classic’ held on October 5.
It’s a beautiful way to honour Jake and we are very humbled that his family has chosen to donate to CareFlight,” CareFlight Regional Fundraising Manager Sarah Delahunty said.
“Each mission we fly costs, on average, $12,500.
“So the money raised by Jake’s family and friends has literally saved someone.”
In October last year a motorbike accident claimed young Jake’s life.
Jake loved the great outdoors, especially fishing with his father.
The inaugural ‘Jake’s Fishing Classic’, also called ‘take a kid fishing day’ by the Broadhead family, reflects his passion for the sport.
The CareFlight intensive care rescue team who attended Jake on the day of his accident was in Roma today to present his parents Josh and Sally with a signed picture book.
The $14,576 raised from Jake’s day will go towards funding CareFlight’s lifesaving operation locally.
