CareFlight perform winch rescue off cargo ship
The RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter has winched a seaman from a cargo ship tracking 25 nautical miles east of Fraser Island.
It is suspected that the man, aged in his fifties, suffered a stroke earlier today.
The Sunshine Coast based RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked to the Brisbane bound ship around 1.15pm.
Its Flight Intensive Care Paramedic was winched down onto the deck of the moving vessel, estimated to be travelling approximately 20 kilometres per hour.
The man was treated, secured in a rescue basket and winched aboard the helicopter.
He was airlifted to Nambour General Hospital in a stable condition.
One third of all missions RACQ CareFlight Rescue flies require swift specialist attention.
