Captain airlifted off bulk carrier
RACQ CareFlight Rescue's Gold Coast crew has successfully airlifted the master of the bulk carrier to hospital.
The crew took off from the CareFlight base at the Gold Coast Airport at 10am Sunday morning and proceeded to the vessel 30 nautical miles off northern NSW.
The ship that was heading north to China kept in constant contact with the crew.
Once on scene, the crewman winched down the Flight Paramedic and stretcher to the deck of the vessel.
With the assistance of the crew on-board the carrier, the Flight Paramedic stabilised the patient and brought him to the deck ready to be winched into the rescue helicopter.
He was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
