Bushwalker airlifted from remote national park
A man in 50s has been airlifted by the Sunshine Coast RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter from rugged terrain in the Woolooga National Park, north west of Gympie, after suffering severe back pain.
The man had been on the second day of a two-day trek with a group of fellow walkers when he succumbed to the extremely painful condition and could no longer stand.
RACQ CareFlight Rescue Aircrewman Scott Reeman said, “Due to the isolated location, swift access could only be made by air, by the RACQ CareFlight Rescue team.”
“He was in a lot of pain, but was in good spirits.”
CareFlight’s Intensive Care Flight Paramedic treated the man on-scene before transferring him to Nambour General Hospital in a stable condition.
Last year, RACQ CareFlight Rescue performed 250 missions on the Sunshine Coast and in the surrounding areas, providing immediate aeromedical care for seriously injured or ill patients.
