Annual CareFlight Base to Base ride mounts up
Australian Cycling Champion Robbie McEwen will officially launch the annual CareFlight Base to Base Cycle Challenge on the Gold Coast this Friday April 4.
The inspirational ride to save lives will see 50 cyclists cover a 270-kilometre Gold Coast to Toowoomba course on Sunday May 4. This is the reverse of the 2013 event.
The gruelling fundraiser starts on the Gold Coast and finishes at CareFlight’s Toowoomba Hangar.
The Warrego Highway and Toowoomba Range stretches are expected to test even the fittest cyclist’s endurance.
Dedicated CareFlight supporters, past patients and high profile riders will celebrate the launch of CareFlight’s most popular fundraiser over a delicious networking breakfast at CareFlight’s Gold Coast Hangar on Friday.
Robbie McEwen, professional cyclist Alex Wohler and CareFlight Paramedic Brad Solomon will speak at the launch.
Robbie, Alex and Brad are all confirmed to ride in the CareFlight Base to Base Cycle Challenge this year, alongside 47 elite riders to help raise funds and awareness for RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopters saving lives every day across Queensland. The goal is to raise $100,000.
CareFlight has transported more than 38,500 patients, including many cyclists, in the past 30 years of operation.
The launch will provide some great social photo opportunities and all media are invited to attend.
A full media release on the launch of the CareFlight Base to Base Cycle Challenge will be issued after the breakfast.
