Trio rescued from Coral Sea after boat capsizes
The RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter has flown to the aid of three men after their boat capsized off the Fraser Coast. The trio were around three nautical miles east of Inskip Point when their 14 metre cruiser overturned.
It is not known what caused the vessel to keel over. One of the men on-board made a triple zero call for help and activated a personal distress beacon.
At 11.40am, Hervey Bay Water Police tasked the CareFlight helicopter to find the beacon. Within forty minutes of departing its Sunshine Coast base, the helicopter crew spotted the men sitting on the starboard side of the sinking vessel. All three were found safe, well and wearing life vests.
The helicopter remained overhead and directed ‘Cooloola Rescue’ from Coast Guard Tin Can Bay to the sinking boat’s location. The rescue vessel arrived within minutes and safely retrieved the men using life rings.
