Man ran over by tinnie while crab fishing

Saturday 9 November 2013
A man in his 40s has been seriously injured in a boating accident at Poona - north of Tin Can Bay - requiring an urgent airlift by the RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter.

The man, from Maryborough, was tending to crab pots at Swan Creek in his tinnie when the accident occurred. He and his mates were pushing the tinnie into deeper waters when it flipped over and the boat ran over him.

He was hit by the propeller, sustaining a suspected head injury and cuts to his arms and head.

The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ CareFlight Rescue crew landed at the Showgrounds in the Poona township to treat and transport the injured man.

He was flown to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
