Home run for CareFlight at Reago’s Softball and Family Day
The Tate family is in overdrive organising a family fun day in honour of RACQ CareFlight Rescue, after the helicopter service saved the life of their foster child, Reago, last July.
Reago’s Softball and Family Day at Wandoan State School oval on March 10 will raise much-needed funds for the life-saving helicopter rescue service.
Katrina Tate said the decision to hold a fundraising event for CareFlight came from her mother who decided all she wanted for her 50th birthday was to ensure RACQ CareFlight’s choppers stayed in the air.
At her request, the Tate family planned this whole event as a thank you to CareFlight, and to honour a birthday wish.
“You don’t realise that one day you may depend on one of these services to help keep a loved one alive. Anyone could find themselves in a life threatening situation at any time,” Ms Tate said.
“We all wish we could give something back to CareFlight every day - not just on the day of this event.
“That’s how grateful we are for what they have given us.”
Reago’s Softball and Family Day will feature a raffle with over 60 prizes including a 200 litre petrol voucher donated by Wondoan Rural Supplies and a signed Gold Coast Titan’s jersey.
Kids’ activities on offer include a merry-go-round, miniature train ride and T-Ball, while adults can entertain themselves in a ‘fastest pitch competition’ and listen to the local sounds of the Lion’s Club Band.
Organisers have been overwhelmed by the local community support for Reago’s Softball and Family Day with more than $5000 already pledged by local businesses.
“Our initial goal was to raise $2000,” Katrina said.
“The family day is still a few weeks away and we’ve been overwhelmed by the huge amount of support we’ve already received."
“We’ve already got 14 teams signed up to take part in the softball competition. Now we just need people to show up on the day,” she said.
Reago’s Softball and Family Day will kick off at 9:00am.
