The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was called to airlift the man, aged in his 50s, after he was found by a mate over two hours later.
He had sustained lower limb injuries and was suffering from severe blood loss, which he managed to stem by creating a makeshift tourniquet.
The aeromedical team treated the man at the scene before he was airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
RACQ LifeFlight Rescue was tasked to the mission at 1.15pm.
