Man stung by suspected irukandji at Fraser Island

He developed severe pain about an hour later.

Fraser Island paramedics initially treated and transported the man to the Happy Valley helipad where the Bundaberg based RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter had landed.

Its intensive care flight paramedic continued to treat the man who was airlifted to Hervey Bay Hospital last night.

He travelled in a stable condition.

In January 2013, RACQ CareFlight Rescue airlifted seven people from Fraser Island in a nine day period; all were suffering suspected irukandji jellyfish stings.

The patients, who ranged in age from five to 40 years old, were all stung on the western side of the island, late in the day.
