LifeFlight welcomes Glencore’s renewal of major sponsorship for Mount Isa base

LifeFlight has welcomed the announcement by Glencore North Queensland of a new two-year $300,000 corporate partnership for its North West Queensland base which will help the not-for-profit organisation continue its lifesaving work.
The partnership funding, under the Glencore Community Program North Queensland, will be directed to the operational cost of the Mount Isa-based RACQ LifeFlight rescue helicopter, which provides a 24-hour seven-days-a-week rapid response air-medical service.
LifeFlight Executive Manager Fundraising Leanne Angel said the Glencore partnership was vitally important to help overcome the tyranny of distance for workers, residents and tourists in North West Queensland and ensure they had access to world class medical care.
“The sponsorship with Glencore will ensure the safety of their work force in and around Mount Isa and its operations at Mount Isa Mines and Ernest Henry Mining, as well as provide a blanket of care for residents and their families if they ever need to be airlifted for a medical emergency,” said Ms Angel.
“We know from Glencore’s recent Community Attitudes Survey that one thing that was very important to the community was increased access to improved health and medical facilities.
“The ability to access the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter anywhere and anytime in the region will provide that peace of mind to locals that we will be there in their hour of need.”
Glencore has been a long-time supporter of helicopter rescue services in the North West, funding the Mount Isa-based helicopter since 2012 with the total sponsorship from 2012-2017 now totalling $1 million.
The Glencore sponsorship follows the announcement on Wednesday by Emergency Services Minister Mark Ryan that the Palaszczuk Government will continue to support the LifeFlight Mount Isa helicopter with a further $800,000.
The Mount Isa-based LifeFlight crew has flown 37 missions since taking over the service on July 1, 2015, which includes a range of critical care airlifts including patient injuries resulting from horse falls, snake bites, motor vehicle accidents, cardiac conditions and serious abdominal injuries.
