LifeFlight joins search for missing fishermen

The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter joined the search just before 10 o’clock this morning with two pilots and a winch operator on board.

The helicopter crew refuelled twice throughout the day in Gladstone, covering three different search areas (**see link to graphic below).

The crew spent more than an hour covering the location where it’s believed the vessel sank but nothing more than debris was found.

It’s believed the vessel overturned around 7:30 last night – sinking around midnight.

One of the seven men, believed to be on board the vessel, was located around 7.30 this morning by a passing boat.

2016-17 was a record year for LifeFlight for lifesaving missions with its aeromedical crews, community helicopters and Air Ambulance jets performing a record 5,342 missions throughout Queensland and around the world.
