Aircremwan Ryan Purchase said early reports suggest the 65 year old man came off his ski onto rocks.
“Ambulance crews were initially tasked to what was being described as a near drowning,” said Ryan.
“When his condition started to deteriorate the decision was made to task the chopper so he could be winched out quickly.”
CareFlight’s Doctor and Paramedic were already on the ground helping QAS treat the patient.
Just after 10am, the patient was stretcher winched into the CareFlight helicopter and transported to the Gold Coast Hospital.
He was in a serious but stable condition during the flight.
