The teenager and two friends had been attempting to climb down the side of Lower Ballanjui Falls at Binna Burra when he slipped.
Ground crews attempted to get to the injured teenager, but it was simply impossible.
The Gold Coast RACQ CareFlight Rescue team was called and Paramedic Jaye Newton was lowered from the helicopter to the injured man.
“Basically I had to secure the patient first so that he couldn’t fall any further,” Jaye Newton said.
“It was tremendous flying by Pilot Dave Bashir and Ryan Purchase the aircrewman who lowered me down to the boy by winch.
The teenager had relatively minor lacerations to his lower left leg.
He was airlifted to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
Ground crews led his two friends back down from the side of the falls safely.
It’s the second winch mission RACQ CareFlight Rescue has performed in just three days.
A 60 year old fisherman was winched to safety by CareFlight’s Bundaberg crew in the early hours of Sunday morning after his boat sank off the Fraser Island coast.
He had suffered suspected hypothermia and was airlifted to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition.
