This afternoon, the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked 10 km south of Maleny after a sedan collided with a tree in wet conditions shortly before 1:30pm.
The sole occupant, a female in her mid-20s, was trapped in her vehicle for almost 90 minutes while emergency services and the aeromedical crew worked to free her.
After being released from the vehicle she was airlifted to RACQ LifeFlight’s base on the Sunshine Coast but due to low cloud at the airport, it was decided to transport her by road ambulance to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital accompanied by the aeromedical crew.
Earlier this morning the crew was sent to the Maleny-Kenilworth Road at Conondale in the Sunshine Coast hinterland after another motor vehicle accident, where it’s believed one vehicle skidded on the road into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
The RACQ LifeFlight’s aeromedical crew assisted the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) to treat two patients – one from each vehicle.
A woman in her mid-20s was airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
The male driver of the other vehicle received only minor injuries and was transported by road ambulance to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
On Saturday the Sunshine Coast based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter flew to a private property 20km north of Gympie after a motocross rider fell from his bike.
The man, aged in his 20s, had been attempting a jump and landed heavily, knocking him unconscious for several minutes.
The aeromedical team assisted the QAS on the scene to treat his injuries, which included multiple trauma injuries to his head, neck and lungs.
The crew spent around 90 minutes stabilising the man before airlifting him to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
2016-17 was a record year for LifeFlight for lifesaving missions with its aeromedical crews, community helicopters and Air Ambulance jets performing a record 5,342 missions throughout Queensland and around the world.
