Forty guests attended the event including dedicated CareFlight supporters from the Department of Transport & Main Roads, University of Southern Queensland, McWilliam Sander Accountants and McDonalds Toowoomba West.
Guests were entertained with real life stories of RACQ CareFlight Rescue missions including the incredible winch rescue performed over flooded waters near Mt Tyson on Sunday.
The official launch event was staged in an original CareFlight Hangar at the Clive Berghofer CareFlight Centre in Toowoomba with a networking breakfast hosted by RACQ CareFlight’s Executive Fundraising Manager Leanne Angel.
The CareFlight Base to Base Cycle Challenge will be held on Sunday May 4 with a team of 50 elite cyclists riding an impressive 270 kilometres in a single day from the Gold Coast to CareFlight’s Toowoomba Hangar.
Mr McEwen will hit the road with a number of well-known cyclists, former patients, corporate executives and CareFlight crew including professional cyclist Alex Wohler, CEO of the Gold Coast Suns Travis Auld and CareFlight Paramedic Brad Solomon.
“We’re so thankful that 25 riders have already signed on to this event to raise much-needed funds and awareness for RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopters.
“With each rescue mission costing more than $12,500, we rely on the community for more than a third of our funding. Fundraising events like this are vital to keep our rescue helicopters in the air, so CareFlight can continue to save lives every day across Queensland.
“On average we airlift three patients a day and that help comes at an enormous cost, and we’re asking the community to get behind these cyclists and donate to the cause,” Ms Angel added.
This year’s event is expected to be the biggest to-date with a goal to raise $100,000.
South West Queensland continues to be the busiest region for RACQ CareFlight Rescue.
Last year, CareFlight’s crew treated and transferred 619 patients within and around the Toowoomba region.
Please support the incredible efforts of these inspiring riders by donating to the CareFlight Base to Base Cycle Challenge.
