Emergency beacon leads RACQ LifeFlight Rescuers to injured rider

Queensland Police Service called the Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter into action just before 1 o’clock this afternoon.

It’s believed the man, aged in his fifties, activated a personal locator beacon, after he injured his leg.

Mobile phone coverage in the area is poor, so he was unable to call for help any other way.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crew was able to locate the man, due to the emergency beacon.

A Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic was winched 180ft down to the patient, to assess his injuries.

It was determined that the man wasn’t seriously injured and was able to be picked up in a personal vehicle.

The QAS Flight Paramedic was winched back up to the chopper and the aeromedical team returned to base.
