It’s understood the man was on the lower climbing tracks of Mount Tibrogargan when he slipped resulting in suspected arm and head injuries.
The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was called to assist at the scene shortly before 10am.
CareFlight Aircrewman Rick Harvey said the rescue was particularly difficult.
“Although the patient was not far from the base of the mountain, he fell in a particularly steep and rocky location,” Mr Harvey said.
The CareFlight Critical Care Doctor and Intensive Care Flight Paramedic on board the rescue helicopter were winched down onto the mountain to assist the patient at the scene of the accident.
“The CareFlight medical team worked with local emergency service ground crews on the rock face to stabilise the man.”
“We were then able to perform a double stretcher winch, where we winched the stretcher patient and the doctor on board the chopper together,” he said.
The patient was airlifted to Nambour General Hospital for further treatment.
The man travelled in a stable condition.
