It is believed that the man went overboard from the deck of a Liberia-flagged cargo ship, the Sea Amity, shortly before 10.30pm Tuesday night.
CareFlight’s Maroochydore-based rescue helicopter was tasked to join the search coordinated by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) at 9.50am this morning.
The crew completed a sweep of an assigned 100 nautical mile area, but there was no sign of the man.
The helicopter returned to base to refuel.
The Sunshine Coast crew re-joined the search at 2pm.
Multiple other agencies, supplying fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft, have also been involved in today’s search.
