CareFlight Nurse treats injured rider nearly 10 years after own airlift

The 60-year-old rider sustained suspected arm, leg and shoulder injuries after crashing into a fence.

RACQ CareFlight Rescue’s Brisbane-based AW139 helicopter responded to the accident at 2pm yesterday with a Critical Care Doctor and Intensive Care Flight Nurse on board.

For CareFlight’s Flight Nurse Josh Ball, yesterday’s trail bike crash hit close to home.

Josh found himself on the receiving end of CareFlight’s lifesaving care back in 2006 after he fell off a quad bike at Black Duck Valley Moto Park and broke his back.

“It has been almost 10 years since I was rescued from the infamous Black Duck Valley,” he said.

“Yesterday I was able to return the favour to a fellow rider as part of the CareFlight crew.

“Ever since that day I have wanted to give back to the community and what better way.”

The rider was flown to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.

His daughter accompanied him on the flight.
