It is believed the horse she was riding spooked and bucked during an early morning ride today.
To retrieve the patient, the crew clocked up 660km or 356 nautical miles flying to Mungindi Hospital, a town on the New South Wales/Queensland border lying on the outer most rim of the rescue service’s flight region.
The long distance journey was broken up in both directions with a fuel stop in Goondiwindi costing the service more than $5000 in Jet A1 fuel alone.
A Critical Care Doctor and Flight Intensive Care Paramedic on-board the helicopter treated the teen before flying her to Toowoomba Base Hospital.
She travelled in a stable condition.
