Shortly after 2.30pm, the Sunshine Coast RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked to fly to Orchid Beach, on Fraser Island’s western side, to airlift a 5-year-old girl who had reportedly been stung.
The young girl was airlifted to Nambour General Hospital in a stable condition.
Later that evening, a 16-year-old Sunshine Coast girl, who was also holidaying near Orchid Beach, was airlifted to Bundaberg Hospital by the Bundaberg-based rescue helicopter.
She also travelled in a stable condition.
The species of marine stinger was unknown in both cases.
