CareFlight chopper to touch down for Hospital Open Day

The event will feature a special appearance by the RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter which will operate from the hospital’s helipad for the day.

CareFlight’s Karen McIntyre said the GCUH Community Open Day will offer residents their first chance to see inside the $1.76 billion dollar facility before it opens to patients on Saturday 28 September this year.

“It’s a great chance to show the community what a huge difference the new hospital and helipad will make to patient care on the Gold Coast.

“People may even get the chance to see the helicopter and crew take off, on their way to assist someone in need.”

The GCUH Community Open Day will run from 9am – 3pm and will feature guided tours, health information and family fun activities.

“CareFlight will have an information stall set up in the garden area and ‘Chief’ our CareFlight Bear mascot will be there to meet and greet the kids,” Ms McIntyre said.

“We encourage people to join us at the Community Open Day, meet the CareFlight crew and celebrate our city’s wonderful new asset,” she said.

Located on the corner of Parklands Drive and Olsen Avenue in Southport, GCUH will be one of Queensland’s largest clinical teaching and research facilities.
