CareFlight aircraft continue to help with flood evacuations in devastated south west Qld

Due to the flood crisis throughout south west Qld, CareFlight relocated three additional helicopters to Roma on Friday evening to assist its permanently based Roma helicopter with evacuations and rescue missions.

CareFlight’s lear jet has also been heavily involved flying back and forth to Charleville to airlift patients, including a 90 year old lady and a 24 year old lady who was 30 weeks pregnant.

CareFlight Aircrewman Brian Guthrie said Roma Airport was a hub of resources as emergency services personnel pulled together to help residents inundated by floodwaters.

“From the air the area is unrecognisable. It is heart-breaking to see so many families uprooted by the damage.

“CareFlight is very much a part of the community out here now with a helicopter permanently based in Roma, so it is difficult to witness the damage but at least our crew members know they are making a difference in such challenging circumstances,” said Brian Guthrie.
