Nursing

Face incredible new challenges

If you are seeking a rewarding position providing the best possible nursing care, are able to handle pressure in a critical environment and the challenge of resolving problems and difficult situations, then a Flight Nurse role may be for you.

LifeFlight Retrieval Medicine employs registered nurses to work with an experienced team of doctors, pilots and support staff on state-of-the-art helicopters and medically equipped jets, domestically and internationally.

Work on-board rescue helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft assisting with rapid response and scheduled air-medical transports throughout Australia and across the globe

Experience a wide range of medical challenges from transferring neonatal patients and their mothers, to critical patients from car crashes or burns and those who have fallen seriously ill and need to be moved between hospitals

Develop and enhance your clinical leadership, assessment and management skills

The role of a LifeFlight Retrieval Medicine Flight Nurse

As a part of the LifeFlight Retrieval Medical team, you’ll play a crucial role providing expert nursing care for critically ill or injured patients within a varied and challenging environment primarily during the planning and execution of rotary-wing inter-facility transfers, but with the potential to also include rotary wing primary retrievals and fixed-wing international retrievals as required.

Paramedicine

The role of a LifeFlight Paramedic

Flight Paramedics work with Retrieval Medicine Officers as the retrieval team providing a high level of care to all patients retrieved by LifeFlight helicopters. This includes patient assessment, appropriate diagnostic procedures, formulation and implementation of a management plan, effecting safe transport to a definitive care facility and completion of all required documentation in a timely manner. SGAS retrievals are conducted using rotary wing aircraft based in Toowoomba and Roma in Queensland Australia, for SGAS consortium staff, contractors and site visitors and for public health agencies.

Retrieval Registrar

Twice a year, LifeFlight Retrieval Medicine welcomes 31 new recruits to take part in a 6- to 12-month medical experience like no other.

Our Critical Care Doctors provide, in collaboration with flight nurses and paramedics, pre-hospital treatment and medical monitoring through the deployment of our own rescue helicopter and air ambulance fleets. They also complete missions for other providers of emergency and aeromedical care to the Queensland community under contract to the Queensland Health Department.
