The man had been on board a fishing charter vessel travelling past Morten Island when he injured his leg.
It is understood the rocking motion against the swell caused the floor of the 30 foot single hull boat to come up with such force, hitting the man’s raised leg and fracturing it.
CareFlight’s Critical Care Doctor, QAS Flight Paramedic, Pilot and Aircrewman had to wade out into waist deep water to reach the man on board the vessel.
The medical team treated the patient before airlifting him to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition.
On average RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopters fly to the aid of at least three Queensland residents every day.
In the last week, CareFlight has airlifted 24 patients requiring urgent medical care, eight of which the Sunshine Coast crew performed.
