Body boarder airlifted from South Stradbroke Island

The rescue helicopter was tasked at 7:50 am to the surfing beach just north of the Gold Coast Seaway where a body boarder had been dumped in waves and knocked unconscious. A friend surfing close by witnessed what happened and acted quickly, dragging him to shore. An off duty lifesaver started first aid to the patient.

Emergency services where notified and both QAS and Surf Lifesaving volunteers rushed to the scene to assist and treat the 27 year old male from the Gold Coast.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter landed close by on the Seaway wall and the medical team accessed the patient and treated him for head and suspected spinal injuries. He was then carried to the rescue helicopter and airlifted to the Princess Alexander Hospital in a stable condition.
