The man had been mowing at a property in Mt Mee when he lost control of the machine. He told his rescuers that he was able to jump clear of the mower before they both rolled around 10 metres down the steep embankment. He came to rest in scrub at the edge of a main road, with the mower landing just metres away.
A passing motorists spotted the man and stopped to provide assistance and make an immediate call for help.
RACQ CareFlight Rescue landed on the road, where its flight doctor and intensive care flight paramedic treated the Sandgate man for injuries to his legs.
He was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.
