The centre of LifeFlight’s life saving work is our round-the-clock coordination centre.

The facility is LifeFlight's communication nerve centre, staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. The team is made up of an experienced group of aviation and medical coordinators who specialise in medical management, emergency response, commercial and military aviation disciplines and emergency retrieval medicine. Their expertise ensures that our patients receive the most timely and effective care possible, no matter where they are.

LifeFlight's coordination centre is our logistical and operational hub and coordinates our extensive fleet of air ambulance jets, rescue helicopters and medical retrieval services while taking care of all issues connected with the medical transfer of our patients.

This includes managing the following activities:

•  activation and tasking of rescue helicopters and air ambulance jets
•  securing landing permits
•  flight planning
•  obtaining customs and immigration clearance
•  ground ambulance and ground handling
•  flight tracking
•  refuelling

Our coordinators have extensive knowledge of local conditions and are supported by over 30 years of organisational learning in aeromedical practice to ensure we deliver the very best rapid response care, no matter how complex or routine the medical case may be.

LifeFlight's coordination centre also provides Telephone Medical Advice Services (TMAS) on behalf of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).  It's the point of contact for all Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) class ships in any seas or oceans and any vessel within the Australian Search and Rescue Region which requires medical advice.
