Motorbike rider airlifted after Maranoa region accident

The Roma-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) rescue helicopter has airlifted a man to hospital, after he was involved in a motorcycle accident in the Maranoa region, this afternoon.

The rescue chopper landed at the scene after both the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) and the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) closed the highway, for the aircraft to land.

It's believed the motorcyclist had been travelling with a group of riders when he came off his bike and slid 50 metres down the road.

"The rider had been wearing all the appropriate safety gear which helped him protect himself," said LifeFlight's Critical Care Doctor Gareth Richards.

The male, aged in his late sixties, suffered chest injuries and multiple abrasions.

He was airlifted to the Toowoomba Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
