Critically injured woman airlifted after car collides with tree

RACQ LifeFlight Rescue has airlifted a woman who escaped from a crashed vehicle, just before it caught fire, north of Gympie.

It's believed the car the woman was travelling in hit a tree late last night and she was helped from the vehicle, moments before it started burning.

The Sunshine Coast-based rescue helicopter was tasked to the scene of the single vehicle accident, around 11.30pm.

On arrival, the LifeFlight Critical Care Doctor and QAS Flight Paramedic assisted the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS), in treating a woman who had suffered serious internal injuries from the accident.

The patient, aged in her 40s, was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital, in a critical condition.
