Exclusive launch of Brisbane LifeFlight Foundation Benefit Gala
Hon. Rob Borbidge AO, Chairman of LifeFlight Australia and esteemed members of the Brisbane community gathered for the launch of the inaugural LifeFlight Foundation Benefit Gala in Brisbane last night at the RNA Showgrounds.
The intimate affair showcased a preview of what's to come at the official Brisbane LifeFlight Foundation Benefit Gala later in May, including a guest performance and live Q&A with past-patient of the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue service, Connor Sharpe.
The weather couldn't dampen the guests' spirits as they sat captivated by Connor - a young musician - who played his saxophone for the crowd and shared his remarkable tale of rescue with his mother, Wendy by his side.
Connor was airlifted by RACQ LifeFlight Rescue after he suffered a heart attack at football training when he was just 15 years of age. While his football boots may have been forced into an early retirement, Connor has thrown himself into his other passion - music - and has since been accepted into the prestigious Queensland Conservatorium of Music to pursue a career in the arts.
His story reminded guests of the importance of the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue service and its fleet of community helicopters which help thousands of critically sick and injured Queenslanders every year.
Good-natured bidding was alive and well as Table One was auctioned to guests - the most sought-after table on the night due to its proximity to the stage, prizes and entertainment - with the winning bid coming in at $5,000.
If last night's launch event is anything to go by, the official Brisbane LifeFlight Foundation Benefit Gala will be a night to remember and 'celebrate life'.
