Snake bite victim airlifted from remote community

CareFlight has airlifted a man from the remote North West Queensland township of Gregory Downs after he was bitten by a snake late last night.

It is believed the man was drinking with friends at the local pub on Wednesday evening, and was bitten on the right leg by an unidentified snake when he stepped outside.

The Mount Isa RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked to fly to the remote rural community at 11.30pm and arrived approximately one hour later.

The CareFlight medical team treated the man on the scene, and gave thanks to locals who had correctly administered first aid to the man.

The patient was flown to Mount Isa Hospital in a stable condition.
