RACQ CareFlight Rescue finds missing woman

An elderly woman missing for two nights in the Beerwah area was located by RACQ CareFlight Rescue this morning.

The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked to assist with the Search and Rescue mission by the Queensland Police Service at approximately 9.30am this morning.

On approach to the designated search area the helicopter crew spotted the missing woman, who suffers from a known medical condition, in an area of open farm land.

CareFlight Aircrew Officer Richard Harvey said the helicopter pilot caught sight of the woman in a location alongside a creek, approximately 500 metres from the search site where Queensland Police Service and State Emergency Service personnel were preparing to commence the search operations for the day.

The CareFlight crew landed the helicopter nearby the missing woman at approximately 10am.

Once on scene, the woman was assessed on site by the Critical Care Doctor and Flight Paramedic on board the helicopter.

The woman was reportedly suffering from dehydration.

Mr Harvey said the CareFlight crew were surprised to have found the woman before the search mission officially commenced.

“This would have to be one of the fastest Search and Rescue missions CareFlight has been involved with,” he said.

“We were very pleased we were able to find the missing person safe and well.”

“She seemed to be in good spirits on our arrival,” Mr Harvey said.

The patient was transferred to Nambour General Hospital via road ambulance for further observation.

Prior to being located, it’s understood the woman had been missing since approximately 9pm on Tuesday evening.
