Man airlifted after diabetic episode

The Mount Isa RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was activated to attended a primary incident at Fountain Springs rest area on the Barkly Highway, 60 kilometres East of Mount Isa shortly before midday Saturday.

A 66-year-old man on holidays from Brisbane suffered a diabetic episode and required urgent medical attention.

Queensland Ambulance Service ground crews were first on scene and treated the gentleman.

The rescue helicopter was required to land on the highway, and with the assistance of Queensland Police the highway was blocked for only a short amount of time.

The patient was airlifted to the Mount Isa Hospital in a stable condition.

This is the rescue helicopters first mission primary mission since being offline from maintenance.
