Child kicked in head by horse

A three-year-old boy has been airlifted to a Brisbane hospital overnight (Wednesday) after being kicked in the head by a horse on a property in the Gympie region.

RACQ CareFlight Rescue’s Brisbane-based helicopter was tasked at 6pm to retrieve the injured boy from Gympie Hospital.

The child suffered a suspected head injury.

CareFlight Pilot Andrew Riches utilised Night Vision Goggles (NVG) on board the AW139 helicopter after the aircraft was recently fitted with the vital equipment.

“NVGs significantly increase the safety and efficiency of night time flying and are more effective in low visibility conditions,” he said.

The patient was flown to the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
