Shark hook embedded in teenager

The RACQ CareFlight Bundaberg rescue helicopter was tasked to Cathedral Beach on Fraser Island Sunday afternoon, where a teenager had injured himself whilst learning how to cast a fishing line with a shark hook.

Both the patient and a friend from the Sunshine Coast had been attempting to cast a line with a 10 cm shark hook attached when he aborted the cast and the hook lodged into his back.

The local QAS officer treated the teenager and carefully bandaged the injury leaving the hook in his back awaiting the arrival of the rescue helicopter. He was then airlifted to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition where Doctors will remove the hook.
