Missing spear fisherman found off Tweed Coast

Two spear fisherman, reported missing off the Tweed Heads Coast this morning, were found alive and well by the RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter crew.

The Gold Coast-based helicopter was called in by the New South Wales Water Police around 9am to perform an aerial search near Nine Mile Reef.

The two men were free diving just off the coast when they got into trouble and were drifting for about an hour and a half before they were located.

RACQ CareFlight Rescue’s Aircrewman, Luke Pagano, said the helicopter crew spotted the two fishermen and directed Water Police to the men’s location.

“Thankfully, the fishermen were found safe and well,” he said.

“The Water Police retrieved the men and took them to Tweed Heads. They didn’t require any medical treatment,” he said.
