CareFlight fundraiser winched from forest
The Sunshine Coast RACQ CareFlight Rescue crew spent much of ANZAC Day in the skies, airlifting four back to back patients over the course of the day.
After airlifting a teen injured at a horse riding event west of Murgon, the crew were tasked from the Nambour Hospital helipad to a forest west of Gympie where a man reportedly on an off-road motorcycle fundraiser for CareFlight was injured when he came off his bike.
The man in his fifties, was said to have hit a ditch while riding in a group and suffered injuries after falling off his bike.
Just after midday, a QAS paramedic onboard the CareFlight helicopter was winched down to the scene, where he treated the patient for his injuries and prepared him to be winched on a stretcher into the aircraft.
The patient was then flown to Nambour Hospital in a stable condition.
The crew then performed two interhospital transfers, one from Gympie Hospital to Nambour Hospital for a seriously ill elderly woman suffering a medical condition and a second from Hervey Bay Hospital for a man in his forties with suspected sepsis. He travelled in a stable condition to Nambour Hospital.
