Young man winched to safety after cliffside fall

The RACQ CareFlight Rescue Sunshine Coast crew winched a man in his teens from Red Canyon last night (Saturday) suffering temporary unconsciousness after falling several metres down the cliff.

It is understood the teenager was sitting on top of the sand hill when the ledge gave way beneath him.

He landed on a steep sand dune slope before continuing to slide down the slope several more metres, hitting a tree and knocking himself out.

Due to the wild landscape along a stretch of coastline located 30 kilometres north of Noosa’s North Shore, CareFlight’s medical crew could only access and retrieve the teen by winch.

The RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter arrived on scene at around 10pm to perform this incredible night time rescue.

CareFlight’s Critical Care Doctor and Intensive Care Flight Paramedic was lowered down to assess and treat the young man.

The patient was winched from the sand dunes up to the helicopter and airlifted to Nambour General Hospital for further treatment.

He travelled in a stable condition.

CareFlight’s Sunshine Coast crew also airlifted a Brisbane man with a suspected fractured leg to Princess Alexandra Hospital on Saturday.

Information on this mission can be found on CareFlight’s website.
