Teenager airlifted after fatal Surat crash

A teenage boy has been airlifted by the Surat Basin Gas Industry Aeromedical Service after a crash that claimed the life of another man.

Their utility left the road and crashed at around 11pm as it headed west on Developmental Road.

The 15 year old passenger was injured in the crash. He managed to call for help.

He was treated on scene by a CareFlight Intensive Care Doctor for head and possible neck injuries.

“He was in a stable condition but there is the potential for internal injuries,” CareFlight Doctor Julian Wijesuriya said.

The teenager was airlifted by the CareFlight operated helicopter to the Toowoomba Base Hospital.

The Surat Basin Gas Industry Aeromedical Service began flying in April 2011, responding to an urgent need for swift specialist medical care in the remote Surat Basin.

The Service donates the aircraft to the community and has airlifted nearly 150 seriously ill or injured residents in that time.
