Seriously injured woman airlifted after fatal crash

A woman in her 50s has been urgently airlifted to hospital by RACQ CareFlight Rescue after a fatal single vehicle crash south of Gympie.

It is understood the vehicle was travelling along the Bruce Highway at Kybong when it veered off the road and collided with a tree.

The woman was entrapped in the vehicle for a short period before emergency services could extricate her from the wreckage.

She sustained suspected multi-trauma injuries in the accident, which also claimed the life of a man.

The Sunshine Coast RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was called to the scene at 2.30pm, landing in a nearby paddock within 15 minutes.

She was flown to Nambour General Hospital in a serious condition.
