Man sustains eye injury in fishing accident

A man has been airlifted from Fraser Island by the RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter service after a treble fish hook pierced his eye during a fishing trip today.

The man, aged in his 50s, was unhooking his catch when the three-pronged hook hit him in the eye.

RACQ CareFlight Rescue’s Bundaberg-based helicopter was tasked to Fraser Island at 12.30pm, landing at the Happy Valley Ambulance Station.

CareFlight’s Flight Intensive Care Paramedic treated the man’s eye injury before he was flown to Bundaberg Base Hospital.

He travelled in a stable condition throughout the flight.
