Elderly woman airlifted after road smash

An elderly woman has been airlifted by the RACQ CareFlight Rescue after a single vehicle crash near Canungra this afternoon.

The car left Beaudesert Road on the approach to Canungra and struck a tree, injuring the woman and an elderly man.

The Gold Coast RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked just before 4pm.

Both patients were transported by QAS ambulance to a local park to meet the rescue helicopter.

The woman has suspected chest injuries and has been flown to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The male patient is being transported by QAS to hospital.

RACQ CareFlight Rescue is urging people to take extra care on the roads, particuarly during the busy school holiday period.
