CareFlight airlifts critical patient injured in crash

A Sunshine Coast man in his 20s has been severely injured in a single motor vehicle accident requiring the urgent airlift by an RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter.

The man was driving along a stretch of road near Maroochydore when he collided with a stationary vehicle, becoming entrapped in his vehicle before emergency services could extricate him.

RACQ CareFlight Rescue’s Sunshine Coast crew responded to the accident, which occurred in the early hours of this morning, with a Critical Care Doctor and Intensive Care Flight Paramedic treating the young man for suspected multi-trauma injuries.

The patient was transported by road ambulance back to CareFlight’s Sunshine Coast hangar, before being airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a critical condition.

One in ten of all RACQ CareFlight Rescue missions are to treat and airlift patients seriously injured in road accidents.
